Frequently asked questions

What is keyword density?

Keyword density is the percentage of times a specific word or phrase appears in content relative to total word count. Formula: (keyword occurrences ÷ total words) × 100. A 1% density on a 500-word page means the keyword appears 5 times.

What is the ideal keyword density for SEO?

There is no universally ideal density. Google has stated keyword density is not a direct ranking factor. Most SEO practitioners recommend 1–3% as a natural range. The key is that the content reads naturally for humans.

What is keyword stuffing?

Keyword stuffing is the practice of overloading a page with keywords to manipulate rankings. It includes repeating words unnaturally, listing locations without context, and hiding text. Google's spam policies explicitly address keyword stuffing and pages caught doing it may be demoted.

Should I check keyword density for LSI or semantic keywords too?

Yes. Modern SEO focuses on topical relevance. Using semantically related terms and synonyms signals to Google that your content comprehensively covers a topic. Check density for your primary keyword, but also ensure related terms appear naturally throughout the text.
